Question: What are the building regulations regarding insulation in Ireland ?
Answer: Part L of the building regulations in Ireland refer to the basic requirements for insulation in new homes. Part L of the building regulations was amended to increase requirements for insulation from January 2003. If you are building a new home it is important to ensure that your builder is adhearing to these new regulations.
Question:What changes did the amendments to part L in 2002 make ?
Answer: The amendment aimed to set higher thermal performance/insulation standards for provision of dwellings i.e.
- Roof insulation thickness has increased to 250mm
- Cavity Wall insulation - conventional inner leaf 120mm, lightweight concrete block inner leaf 100mm
- Walls with insulation between timber frames or studs e.g. timber frame wall, internal insulation to hollow block or cavity wall 150mm
- Slab-on-ground (typical semi-detached house) 90mm
